My name is Phoebe Quinn and I'm from Florence, Mississippi. I've lived in Mississippi my entire life.
I always knew that when I grow up I wanted to be an Ole Miss student. I thought I wanted to be a dentist, too, but you see how that worked out. I completed an internship in Massachusetts in 2013 in environmental education with Mass Audubon's Allens Pond site, and it changed my life. I had always loved fishing, wildlife, and science, but this internship made me realize - oh yeah, there are jobs that deal with these things. After I graduated from Ole Miss, I got a job working for Alumni Affairs at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. I love UMMC, but the job didn't make me feel fulfilled. "What could bring me joy? How can I help people in my state?" I thought. And then I heard about Mississippi Teacher Corps. The rest is history, really. I married my high school sweetheart, Jason Nichols, on May 28, 2016. He is the kindest man I've ever met and he is a hero for putting up with me without any complaints. After being diagnosed with pre-eclampsia, I delivered my daughter, Magnolia Mayfield Nichols, three weeks early on March 27, 2017. She is already the joy of my life. |
